About Big Fedora

My name is Jeff Lund and Big Fedora is my brainchild. Like many ideas, this one came to me in a flash, but is the product of many years of life experience.

We are not usually aware of time passing, things just happen. That's the way it was for me until I was given a strange gift. It was given to me in the form of a flatbed truck hitting the driver side of my car after it's driver ran a red light. Although I walked away from the accident, it took several months for me to recover from the effects of a concussion. In retrospect it was a pivot point in my life.

I started taking photographs in my early teens and soon after that began to make collages using old postcards and antique images. I went on to study art and art history in college, which led to many years of trying to make a living while working in uncreative jobs. That was until I was smacked along side the head, literally. It's a classic story of an accident survivor reassessing his life. After the accident I started making collages again at an accelerated pace. The cumulative 30 years of making pictures culminated in some of the images that you see here.

If a tree falls in the forest.

What does one do with the pictures they make? You can put them in a drawer, hang them on the wall, have a gallery show or publish them yourself. Over the years, I have played around with different ways of reproducing my work, but only recently have new technology, some extra cash and a little bit of blind faith combined to allow me to make the jump into making my collages into postcards and note cards. At this point, I was joined by my lifetime partner, Monica Reede (who is also an artist), and together we formed Big Fedora, Inc. The edition of 16 postcards was our first effort in this endeavor. After having them printed, we decided that it would be fun to include the work of other artists as well. So, we enlisted the help of some of our friends and asked them to come along for the ride.
